On September 1, the EWSS and IUCN joined together to honor Icons of Conservation, E.O. Wilson, Sylvia A. Earle, Jane Goodall, and Ma Jun; Pillars of Sustainability, The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and The Turner Foundation, Turner Endangered Species Fund and UN Foundation; Pioneers for the Planet, Julie Ann Wrigley, Dang Yanbao, and Kristine Tompkins; and Catalysts for Action, Niu Gensheng and He Qiaonyu. These international leaders, each of whom has inspired vital action for the planet, were delighted to be with each other as they accepted recognition plaques from HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and Maya Soetoro-Ng, sister of President Obama.
