The East-West Sustainability Summit in Ningxia and the two years of planning leading up to it, helped lay the groundwork for China’s major role in Governor Jerry Brown’s Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco in August. China’s Representative for Climate Change Affairs, Xie Zhenhua, served as Co-Chair of the event and launched the Global Climate Action Initiative with Co-Chair Michael Bloomberg. Speaking collectively for the first time on a global stage, philanthropists Niu Gensheng, Dang Yanbao, and a number of other philanthropic organizations, foundations and research organizations offered their strong support for the Paris Agreement and pledged themselves to this global effort to curb climate change.
